The first sentence opens here, drawn out with deliberate weight. A paragraph that the reader falls into rather than steps over — prose that moves at the pace of thought, not plot. Here is where you establish your voice.

The second paragraph deepens the scene. Sensory details arrive quietly, without announcement. The character moves through space and time simultaneously, memory folded into the present tense like a letter pressed into the spine of an old book.

A third paragraph, shorter. A turn. Something shifts — not dramatically, but with the particular weight of the inevitable.

"The sentence you want remembered. Placed here, alone, on the page."

The excerpt continues through its middle passage. Nothing is wasted. Each word earns its position. You write this way because you read this way — slowly, with a pencil, underlining what strikes you as true.
